Ivan Moffatt passed quietly away Jan. 11 in his home in Moosomin, at 75 years of age. Born Feb. 27, 1940 to Andrew and Vera Moffatt, Ivan lived and grew up on the family farm along with three brothers in New Hastings district Northeast of Moosomin.

Ivan enjoyed and had fond memories as a boy attending New Hastings district school through early years and then achieving grade 12 in Moosomin.

He married Sandra Bain in Moosomin in 1960, and worked at TransCanada Pipelines for an amazing span of 37 years based primarily out of station 25. During his career he earned numerous certifications working in electrical maintenance, electronics, instrumentation, control systems, inspection and upgrades for turbines through numerous stations in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

During this time, Ivan was also very involved with the Moosomin Anglican church, worked part-time with Moosomin Ambulance service and earned additional certification as an EMT.

Ivan loved and had great sense of community living in Moosomin nearly his entire life. He was very supportive of all things involving the family and community. He worked on the community centre, volunteered with meals on wheels, curled for number of years, he was an active member of the Anglican church, was involved in church remodeling, and a member of the legion.

Ivan and Sandy, raised four sons in Moosomin. He was always very supportive and proud in all that they did, modelled a great can do attitude “if you put your mind to it” through house projects, repairs, raising a garage, remodeling, and refinishing furniture (one of his favorite hobbies). Ivan and Sandy built a cabin at Moosomin Lake where family and friends enjoyed many happy memories from 1974-1996.

Ivan retired from TCPL in 2001, was active in retirement loving golfing, travel with his wife, friends and family. He was an avid reader, interested in so many topics of the world, was great at the art of conversation. Yet, always a very private person, his sons and extended family were always there to support him or a phone call away, and are all extremely proud how he lived self-sufficient, independent these last years. The family would like to express sincere thanks to all friends, family, home care, and health care workers who helped on those occasions when dad needed it; you were there and it is most appreciated.

Ivan was predeceased by his mom and dad (Vera, Andy), brother John, wife Sandy and son Wade.

Ivan is survived by twobrothers (Gary-Sharon, Bill-June) and sister in law Donna (John) and families, sons and their families (Scott-Debra, Shawn-Charlene, Ryan-Kyla, Tami (Wade’s wife), 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is already greatly missed and will be remembered always.

Funeral service was held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Moosomin, on Friday, January 22 with Rev. Delta Kelly officiating. Interment took place in Moosomin South Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Moosomin and District Health Care Foundation, or St. Alban’s Anglican Church.
