Carlyle Dori Magnusson passed away on January 7, 2016 at the age of 76 at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin, Saskatchewan.

Carlyle was born September 30, 1939 to Freeman and Irene (Brown) Magnusson on the family farm in the Holar District near Tantallon, Saskatchewan. Carlyle attended school in Tantallon and then moved to Calgary. In Calgary, he worked at three jobs prior to working at Chevron Standard, taking early retirement after 29 years in 1992.

Carlyle attended the University of Calgary taking night courses to get his Registered Industrial Accountant designation, completing it in 1966. Carlyle’s career with Chevron took him and his family from Calgary to Virden, Manitoba (1966 – 1970) to Edmonton, Alberta (1970) to Fox Creek, Alberta (1970 – 1972) to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta (1972 - 1973) to Red Deer, Alberta (1973 – 1987) and back to Calgary (1987 – 1997). Carlyle and Sylvia retired to Rocanville, Saskatchewan.

Carlyle married Sylvia Donaldson on June 29, 1963. A daughter, Charlene, was born December 20, 1965 in Calgary, Alberta and son, Michael was born May 2, 1968 in Virden, Manitoba.

Carlyle is lovingly remembered by his wife Sylvia and his children, Charlene (Jeff) Protz and Michael (Lynne) Magnusson. He leaves behind his grandchildren Torrey and Breton Protz as well as Aamon, Samantha and Connor Magnusson. Carlyle is also mourned by his sister Florence (Ed) Neufeld and brother Ron (Brenda) Magnusson, sister-in-law Lorna Magnusson, and brother-in-law Bob (Rose) Donaldson and numerous other family members. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Allan and Cecil Magnusson and a brother-in-law Alfred Swain.

The funeral service was held in St. Paul’s United Church in Rocanville, Sask. on Jan. 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Dawn Wilson officiating. Marilyn Hickie was musician with the Choir singing “On The Wings of a Dove” and urn attendants were Carlyle’s nieces Christy Bumbac, Melissa and Anita Magnusson. Ushers were Blair Polvi and Lennard Olafson with Joyce Nixon and Beverly Felsing at the guest register. The UCW served a lovely lunch after the service. A private burial was at the Holar Cemetery.

Our most sincere thanks go to Dr. Van der Merwe and all the very special nursing staff that helped us through those final days. Thanks to the ones who visited and gave gifts of food and support. Thanks also to Jim Stinson of G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel, Moosomin, Sask.
