Edmond Antonio Perreault passed away peacefully, with his daughters by his side on January 5, 2016 in Russell Hospital, at the age of 92.

Ed was born April 23 1923 in Ste. Marthe, Saskatchewan. He was the fourth child of nine children and the second son of Edmond Perreault and Marguerite Gagnon. When his father passed away in 1942, Ed took on the responsibility of the family. He continued farming the Latta farm near Welwyn, SK with his mom and younger siblings. In 1944, Ed and his mom purchased SW-13-18-29 in Ellice municipality. This was land he continued to farm until he passed it over to his sons in 2006.

Ed met and married Blanche Grose, a school teacher of Welwyn, SK, on June 28, 1947. They had two sons and three daughters. Ed loved nature and the land, taking pride in his farm, called “Ellicedale Herefords.” He raised purebred polled Herefords which he showed at various cattle shows. Family was important to Ed and Blanche. Camping trips were taken between haying and harvest times. Sundays were days for visiting. Ed was an avid card player, so any free evenings were spent playing cards around the kitchen table with his children, and whist tournaments were held with family. Ed and Blanche loved to dance and took up square dancing. On December 30, 1975, after 28 years of marriage, Ed lost his beloved wife and partner, Blanche, through a lengthy battle with cancer. Ed was devastated and lonely, but knew life must go on and be lived.

Renewed joy was found when Ed married Olive Falloon on January 4, 1977. They resided on the Falloon family farm. Ed expanded his farming operation with the help of his two sons. In 1988, Ed and Olive moved to Russell. Ed continued to travel out to the family farm to work with his sons. Ed and Olive enjoyed square dancing and the many friends they made along the way. Ed and Olive were president of the Western Square Dance Association for a term. Playing cards continued being a favourite activity for Ed, and when they began spending winters in Weslaco, Texas, Ed became quite a pool shark. Ed and Olive also travelled throughout the world to areas such as Ireland, Australia, South America, Alaska, Hawaii and the Middle East.

When Ed’s dementia was confirmed in 2013, he spent the remaining years of his life at Sunnyside Manor in Birtle, MB. Ed’s strong faith along with his sense of humour, which was evident throughout his life, helped him deal with his declining health.

Ed was predeceased by his wife Blanche, his brothers Fabien, Joseph, Rosaire, and his sisters Rose Simard, Cecile Huderdeau, Noella Huberdeau, and Sister Yvette. Left to cherish his memory are his brother Andrew, his wife Olive, his children Stephen, Betty (Bob) Downey, Patricia (Nady) Said, Carol (Rick) Hille and Richard, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held for Ed on July 27, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the R.C. church in St. Lazare, MB. If you choose, donations can be made in Ed’s memory to the Sunnyside Manor in Birtle, MB.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and supportive staff of Sunnyside Manor for their kindness and care of Dad. They would also like to thank the nursing staff at Russell Hospital for their support and care at such a difficult time. Thank you also to those who inquired about Dad and expressed sympathy. Dad was loved.
