With great sadness we announce the passing of our father George. Dad passed away peacefully at the Centennial Lodge in Broadview, Sask.

George was the seventh child of the eleven born to Michal and Mary (Hirney) Pich. He was born at home in Moose Bay, Man. where he spent his early years on the farm and then moved to Moosomin, in 1929. He achieved Grade 7. He left home at the age of 16 and worked in the Fairlight district for a few years. When he was 19, he started working for Bob Fudge Industries in Moosomin as a mechanic. He took a special interest in the snow machines. Not only did he build them, he delivered them, took passengers home and even transported men to the jail in Moosomin.

In 1941 George married Edith Down and they worked in the Moosomin area.

In July 1942 he joined the army training as a mechanic. He served overseas until 1945. He built his own home in Fairlight in 1948. Here they raised three children, Raymond, Kenneth and Cheryl. George purchased a lighting plant and garage in 1946. He provided power to a number of homes and businesses, street lights and the rink until 1955 when Sask Power took over. He eventually rebuilt the garage and ran the business until 1966. He then took a job with CCIL and shortly afterward moved the house he built to Moosomin. He thoroughly enjoyed his 14 years with CCIL, making many friends by travelling many miles to repair broken equipment in the crucial farming seasons, retiring in 1980.

George was also a very capable trades person. He built several homes with his sons, doing the framing, electrical, plumbing, and cabinet making.

Travels took him across Canada, England, Mexico and the United States.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, knitting, crocheting and gardening. He was very proud of the numerous roses he started himself. He remained living in his house until he was 92 at which time he moved to the Sunrise Villa in Maryfield. In the summer of 2012, due to failing health he moved into the Centennial Lodge in Broadview. However, George maintained his wonderful sense of humour and unique wit to his final days.

George was predeceased by his wife Edith in 1988.

He is survived by his children, Raymond (Gwen); Kenneth (Lynn); and Cheryl (Corey) Carty, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel, Moosomin Saskatchewan on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 with Rev. Michael Rossouw officiating. Interment took place in Moosomin South Cemetery.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to The Sunrise Villa, Maryfield, Saskatchewan in memory of George. Email or sign the online book of condolences at www.carscaddenfuneralchapel.com. G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel, Moosomin in care of arrangements.
