Hulda was born, along with her twin sister, Tina, on July 29, 1926. Her parents were Bernhard and Helena Sawatzky of Aberdeen, SK.

From a young age, Hulda loved Jesus and served Him all her life. She lived and worked on the dairy farm with Harry, Jake and Adena for many years. She was known for how well she cared for the dairy cows and kept everything sparkling clean. Hulda also loved her dogs (Buster, Rowdy and Rusty to name a few).

After Jake’s passing in 2009, Adena and Hulda moved to Moosomin to a suite in the Knotty Pine. Adena passed away in April, 2010, which left Hulda living on her own. She managed with the help of home care, Alma, and Rolna. A fall in 2011 required long term care, first at Broadview, then to Moosomin in June of 2012. The staff at the nursing home all knew of her love for animals and patiently listened to her stories of milking 55 cows. Several of them brought their own dogs to visit her, which she loved.

Hulda loved to sing. She didn’t read much but knew her songs by heart, even the ones with German lyrics. The residents and staff enjoyed her beautiful voice and smile. Several of them said that she was ‘one of their favorites’. One resident was upset when she had to move and couldn’t hear Hulda singing anymore.

Hulda is predeceased by her parents, Bernhard and Helena, two sisters in infancy, brothers Bernie, Harry, Jake and Aron, and sisters Tina, Lena, and Adena.

Hulda is survived by her sister, Alma Pranke of Moosomin, and nephew Bernard (Rolna) Pranke and Ben, niece Lea (Ben) Friesen and family, niece Cathy (Rodney) Ulrich, niece Joan (Murray) Hanks and family, niece Pauline (Calvin) Andringa and family.

The funeral was held Saturday June 25 at Martens Warman Funeral Home.
