Alma Marie Pranke Schmidt
June 25, 1928 -August 2, 2016

Alma was born in Sepno, Poland and emigrated to Canada with her parents at 3 weeks of age. Alma was the oldest of four children born to Emil and Martha Pranke of Wapella, SK. She helped her Dad with many of the farm jobs, she loved being outside, driving any kind of tractor, truck or harvester. She learned to cook for large numbers of people. She was married to Horst Schmidt for 65 years less 10 days. They have one daughter, Donna (Dale) Rustebakke. Three grandchildren: Damien (Shamayne), Dustin (Andrea), Grady (Ashley) and seven grandchildren. Brayden, Ole, Gustav, Jaide, Wyatt, Emily and Isabella Raine.
She and her late husband, moved to High River, AB in 2006. She has enjoyed the friendship of many residents of Highwood Springs Estates. For the past two years she has taken up daily walking with her ‘sticks’, and aerobics twice a week.
Alma travelled to Germany five times to visit with family she determined to seek out and get to know. She has done extensive Family Tree work and hoped that one day her great-grandchildren would develop an interest. Alma had a passion for her great-grandchildren. She spent dozens of hours in hockey arenas, baseball, soccer fields Tae Kwon Do competitions, ballet and jazz concerts.
She enjoyed ‘wintering in California’ - she loved the sun, desert flowers and ‘sandrailing’! Her motto was ‘ for every day I have left I will make it the best day of my life’.
A visitation for friends and family will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home, High River, on Sunday, August 7 , 2016 between 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
A family interment service will be held at Highwood Cemetery, High River. A Celebration of Alma’s life will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 301 Macleod Trail, High River, on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 2:00 pm. This will be followed coffee and snacks provided by her ‘condo girlfriends’ and an ‘open mike’ to share memories of her life. To email condolences, please visit www.snodgrassfuneralhomes.com.
