Albert MacLeod Munro was born at Kennedy, SK to David and Ellen (Shackleton) Munro on February 19th, 1925. The family moved from the farm at Kennedy to Geraldton, Ont. in 1939 and were employed at the gold mines.

In 1943, Mac was accepted at Notre Dame College in Wilcox, SK at the same time joining the Airforce, training during the summer months at Moose Jaw, SK. He returned to Geraldton where he worked while continuing training, this time in Theology. He attended the University of Dubuque, Iowa Seminary.

Mac organized the Goldpine Youth Club in Geraldton in 1948. They fielded three girls’ ball teams and four boys’ teams. A highlight was a trip to Chicago to watch a football game (College All-Stars vs. Cleveland Browns) and a double header ball game between Cleveland and Chicago.

Mac was always involved in sports, playing ball and hockey, football and soccer. He was proud of having coached a Junior Team in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League to being undefeated in their league for two seasons.

In 1953 Mac went to Olds, AB. where he met and married Eileen Gans in 1954. That began 62 years of life in various places and ventures. Mac loved people and worked at different things, making it possible to meet many. He remembered everyone he ever met. He taught school, worked for Indian Missions, was an entrepreneur (Business in Manitouwadge, Ont.) was Field Director of Recreation for the Alberta Gov’t and more.

In 1970, he moved the family from Whitehorse, YT. to Rocanville, SK. The family lived here while he worked at different mines, mostly in the north. When he retired he absolutely enjoyed cutting and treating posts and meeting the folks who came to buy them (and stay for dinner and a good old fashioned visit!). Most important to Mac were faith, family and friends. His library was not large, it consisted of a Bible, newspaper and a road map. His zest for life has been passed onto his five children who survive him:

Christine (Brent) Strong; Clark (Kyla) Strong, Karen (Jeremy) Chevrier, Blair and Regan, Amanda (Jesse) Godwin, Hudson and Liv; Cathy (Vern) Penner; Luke, Justin and Tyson; David (Debbie) Munro, Alissa and Miles; Carolyn (Geoff) Brand, Danica and Josh; Connie (Aubrey) Patterson, Bryn and Ethan and his wife, Eileen. Also surviving are his sister, Mary Topping, Edmonton, AB and brother Hugh, Victoria, B.C.; sisters-in-law Betty Lou Place, Edmonton and Violet Gans, Olds, AB. Mac was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Stuart, Glen and Bob and his sister Jean. Mac was well loved and will be well remembered.
