It is with extreme sadness that the family of Frank Tappin announces his passing on September 16, 2016 at City Hospital in Saskatoon.

Frank was born in Regina in 1929. He was predeceased by his parents, Rev. Canon and Mrs. A.C. Tappin; two sisters, Elsa and Nan and a brother, Conrad. He is survived by Joy, his loving wife of 65 years; his two daughters, Leanne (Garth) Hannah of Regina and Sandy (Ken) Stotz of Saskatoon; grandson Craig (Vicki Peters) Jackson of Saskatoon; granddaughter Katelyn (David) Dueker of Vanscoy; great-grandchildren Austin, Braxton, James, Ethan, and Danielle; a niece and several nephews and their families.

Frank attended public school in Maple Creek and high school in Moosomin. In 1950, after brief periods as a school teacher in Kamsack and a radio announcer with CKRM in Regina, he entered the insurance business. This became his life’s career, during which he held senior positions with SGI in Regina and Saskatchewan Mutual Insurance Company in Saskatoon. He was a founding member and past president of the Insurance Institute of Saskatchewan.

In 1963, upon graduating as a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada, Frank was awarded the Knollys Shield Award for attaining the highest marks in Canada in the Fellowship examinations. In 1994, he was presented with the Jack Byers Award by the Insurance Brokers’ Association of Saskatchewan for his contribution to the insurance industry. For a number of years after retiring from Saskatchewan Mutual, Frank continued to be involved with insurance by doing consulting work and presenting seminars throughout Western Canada.

In 1951, Frank married Joy Hodges, the love of his life, his partner and best friend. They shared 65 happy years together, raising two lovely daughters, Leanne and Sandy, who were the apples of their father’s eye. Joy and Frank enjoyed travelling, particularly the winter interludes spent in Palm Springs, California.

Frank loved music of all kinds and for several years was a member of the Saskatoon Chimo Chordsmen barbershop chorus and the Extension Chords barbershop quartet. He was an avid reader and would sometimes have two or three books on the go at one time. He also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the 3rd floor staff at Saskatoon City Hospital for the compassionate care they gave Frank during his hospital stay. They would also like to say a special thank you to Dr. Don Stefiuk, Frank’s family physician, for the many years of excellent care he gave Frank.

The Service of Remembrance was held on Saturday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Anglican Church (607 Dufferin Ave, Saskatoon). Interment followed at St. John’s Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan (1232 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5); the Saskatoon SPCA (5028 Clarence Avenue South Grasswood, SK S7T 1A7); or the Salvation Army Community Services (339 Avenue C South, Saskatoon, SK S7M 1N5).
