Joanne Mary Elmslie, age 74, of Gull Lake, Sask., passed away peacefully after a brief illness, with her daughter and sisters by her side on May 16, 2013 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, Sask.

The memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Knox United Church, Gull Lake, Sask. with Reverend Bev Diduck officiating. Music was played by Millis Spagrud, Nora Rudolph and King Gin. The Life Tribute was read by her brother-in-law Don Bradley. The Ushers were Don Busse and Jerry Peterson. The urn bearers were her granddaughters, Courtney and Kaitlyn Ballendine. Honorary Pallbearers were all who shared in her life. The interment service took place at Gull Lake Cemetery.

Joanne is survived by her daughter Shannon (Lorace); granddaughters Courtney and Kaitlyn Ballendine; son Greg Elmslie and granddaughter Kayla; sisters Pat (Don) Bradley and Brenda Service; sister-in-law Florence (Harold) Bothwell; brother-in-law Norman (Norma) Elmslie and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Gerald in 1998; parents Archie and Norma Service; in-laws Robert and Bessie Elmslie.

Joanne was born in Vulcan, Alta. on May 12, 1939. She attended school in Moosomin, and graduated as a registered nurse from the Grey Nuns in Regina in 1960. Joanne was employed for a short time as a nurse in Regina, then continued her career at the Gull Lake Union Hospital from 1961 until her retirement in 1995.

Joanne was a charter member of the Gull Lake Kinette Club and the Nurses Association. She drove senior taxi in Gull Lake for twenty years. Joanne was also a member of the bridge club and when she first came to Gull Lake, she taught Sunday school and was CGIT leader. Joanne loved to golf and travel. She and Gerald enjoyed many holidays, they especially loved cruising. In 2001, Joanne took her granddaughter to Disneyland, she fulfilled a long time promise from Grandpa to take them. Her last holiday was just two months ago, as Joanne and her daughter enjoyed a Caribbean Cruise.

Joanne was also an avid football fan, so whenever and whoever was playing, we always knew where she would be. She was a true Rider fan, having season tickets for 17 years. In her memory, memorial donations may be made to Autumn House in Gull Lake or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Saskatchewan Branch, 1-2217 Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 9Z9.

Joanne will be sadly missed but fondly remember by her family.
