Rachel passed away peacefully on November 8, 2012 in Saskatoon, at the age of 89.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sharon (Al) Cronk of Saskatoon, Dianne (Rod) Sjoberg of Saskatoon, David (Beverley) of Change Islands, Newfoundland, Ron (Arlene) of Saudi Arabia; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; sister Evelyn Curow; sisters-in-law Elma Fitzpatrick, Lois Fitzpatrick and brother-in-law Harold Ecklund, along with many other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband William and by her siblings Lucille (Bob) Cole, Phylis Ecklund, Melvin (Gladys) Fitzpatrick, John Fitzpatrick, Stewart Fitzpatrick and brother-in-law Rolly Curow.

Rachel was born on April 11, 1923 in Carnduff, Sask., the third of eight children to Nelson and Lucia Fitzpatrick. In 1945 she married Bill Carlson. After he received his discharge from the army they settled in Wapella where they raised their family. They retired to Moosomin in 1988. Bill passed away in 1994 and in 2005 Rachel decided to move to Saskatoon to be closer to family.

Rachel had many interests and hobbies. She found a creative and artistic outlet in knitting, quilting and needlework. She loved music and especially enjoyed singing and dancing. She also loved literary pursuits including reading, playing Scrabble and writing. Her contribution to the Wapella History Book received an award and the family history book she compiled is dearly treasured.

Education and lifelong learning were very important to Rachel. She demonstrated this by completing her Grade 12 by correspondence, all while keeping up with four young children. Her community involvement included working at the town library for many years, attending meetings for the Home and School Association and serving as a member of the Wapella United Church in the choir and as the treasurer for 17 years.

The family would like to thank the staff of Stensrud Nursing Home where Rachel received excellent care for the last five years.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 22 at 2 p.m. in the Wapella United Church. Interment will follow in the cemetery at Wapella.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the GR Carscadden Funeral Home, Moosomin, Sask. Phone 306-435-2513, www.carscaddenfuneralchapel.com.
