It is with great sorrow that we say farewell to a much-loved father, grandpa, brother and uncle. The fifth child and first son of Olive and Alex Stewart, he was born at the farm home near Welwyn, Sask. After a short battle with cancer, Du passed away at Queensway-Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario on October 18, 2018.

Du was predeceased by his parents, his wife Peggy, sisters Shirley Campbell and Lesley Cmolik, and niece Jacquie Stewart.

He is survived by daughter Maureen (born to ex-wife Shirley), granddaughter Jerra and her girls Juliet and Jessi, all of whom he adored. Mourning also are his two oldest sisters Audrey Lindsay of Brandon, Anita Armstrong of Saskatoon, and brother Clint (Evelyn) Stewart of Vancouver Island, as well as many nieces and nephews.

After high school at Welwyn, and looking for adventure, Du found work trucking locally and then long distance—Regina to Montreal. He returned each fall to help with harvest on the farm. Du finally settled in Ottawa in 1956 as a driver for OC Transpo.

He retired after 33 years, and then he and Peg moved to their riverside cottage in Ardoch and spent most winters in Florida. Both enjoyed travelling, country living, gardening, country music and socializing with friends.

In 2002, due to Peg’s ill health, they moved to Perth, Ontario. As a volunteer, Du drove thousands of miles taking cancer patients to appointments and hospitals. Generous and helpful to all, he made many lasting friendships wherever he lived.

In May 2018, Du moved to Ottawa to be near family and his beloved Jerra. Du had a deep love of family. He will be truly missed.

A celebration of Du’s life was held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 2 pm at the at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, 403 Richmond Road, Ottawa, Ontario.

If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to The Terry Fox Foundation through the Dr. FJ McDonald Catholic School sponsor page for Juliet & Jessi.
