Irene Virginia Katie Buckland passed away peacefully at the Long Term Care Centre, Moosomin, on June 6, 2013, with her family by her side.

Irene was born May 22, 1925 at the family farm near Minton, Sask. to Tom and Greta Axten. At the age of 12 Irene moved with her family to a farm near Moosomin where she attended Little Bluff School.

On October 8, 1946 Irene married the love of her life Bill Buckland. They were blessed with one son Norman.

The family lived and farmed in the Woodland District until 1966 when they moved to Moosomin. In 1970 they purchased and operated the Dairy Treat until 1974. In 1974 they moved to an acreage north of town. Irene was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, becoming a life member in 1997. She was also very involved in the local agricultural society, enjoyed playing bingo, and was very active in helping with the local horse and pony club that Bill participated in. You could always count on Irene to be in the stands at all gymkhana events telling all the kids what a great job they were doing and how she was their biggest fan!

Irene was an excellent home maker and gardener. She loved growing flowers, especially her gladiolus. And she loved to give her glads away, brightening someone else's day as much as they brightened hers. Irene also decorated many wedding cakes throughout her lifetime and was a great cook, known for her many dishes that she would take to many potlucks.

Irene also loved to travel, travelling through the States, spending winters in Florida and taking trips to Hawaii with her siblings. She especially loved all the trips out to B.C. to visit many relatives.

Irene will always be remembered for her spunk and easy nature, always willing to lend a hand and help out where needed. She enjoyed and loved her family and friends, treasuring her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Irene will be lovingly remembered by her son Norman (Marie); her grandchildren and great grandchildren Kevin (Corinne), Nevaeh, William and Charlene, Tracy, Kaymenn and Caylor, Crystal (Brad), Taige, Surrie, Chass and Jayda; sisters Gertie Crosson, Marj (Bob) Fletcher; brother Elvin (Norma) Axten; brother-in-law Angus Turpie and Steve Leskiw, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Bill (2002); parents Tom and Greta Axten; in laws Garner and Sadie Buckland; sister Bernice (Harry) Purdey; brother-in-law Ernie Crosson; sisters-in-law Irene Turpie and Norma Jean Leskiw.

A funeral service to celebrate Irene's life was held on June 12, 2013, at Carscadden Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Mel Konkel officiating.
The eulogy was given by Leah Stevens with special readings by Kaymenn and Caylor Fawcett. Interment of ashes took place at South Cemetery.
