“It is with deep sorrow that we announce that after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, Marcel Thomas Thievin of Stony Plain, Alta. passed away peacefully in Stony Plain just shy of his 59th birthday.

The ninth of 10 children and born on December 12, 1960 in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Marcel found great comfort in family and loved cooking, playing music and singing with his siblings. Often found with a fishing rod in tow, Marcel was raised on Maple Grove resort on the west end of Round Lake, Saskatchewan where he often described his childhood as “the best childhood a boy could ask for.”

He graduated from Esterhazy High School and then went on to graduate from The Gabriel Dumont Institute. In the past 25 years, Marcel successfully owned and operated a commercial business out of Edmonton, Alta. responsible for the installation and repair of high end video surveillance systems.

A gentleman rooted in principle and character, he enjoyed his time with elders and was often described to his wife and children as a “cut above the rest.”

We remember him fondly as a man eager to help family, neighbors and friends alike and was incredibly giving of his time and knowledge.

Marcel is predeceased by his father Aime Thievin, his brother and godfather Thomas Thievin of Red Deer, Alberta and his brother Francis Thievin of Penticton, B.C.

Left to mourn him are his wife Kathleen, his three children (Nichole, Joel, Cherise) and his grand-daughter Isabel. He is survived by his mother Bernadette, his brothers Jim (Rhonda), Richard (Shirl) and Denis (Olya) as well as his sisters Charlotte (Doug) Neyedley, Marie (Gerry) Blaquière, Dianne Cropp and Jacquie Boake. He is equally missed and survived by mother-and-father-in-law Evelyn and Lee Bamber as well as 47 nephews and nieces and 76 great-newphews and nieces.

A memorial service will be announced in the new year. Letters, prayers, pictures/videos can be sent to thievinletters@gmail.com
