Hilda Eleanor Minty passed away peacefully at Southeast Integrated Care Centre, Moosomin on Thurday, July 11, 2013.

Hilda was the second daughter of Guy and Doris Selby. She was born on the family farm at Beaver Rapids, in the Municipality of Ellice, Manitoba on January 21, 1922. Hilda was a little sister to Doris and became a big sister to Edith, Annie, and Edgar. From the family farm by St. Lazare, they travelled across the Sand Plains by horse and cart to attend Park Plain School.

On October 16 of 1941 Hilda married Bert Minty, settling down on a farm close enough to the Minty family that they could help each other out with seeding and harvest. For a time, Bert worked away from home on the pipeline during the winters, leaving Hilda in charge of sheep and cattle at the farm. August of 1952 brought a new excitement with the arrival of daughter Beverly. In 1960 the family moved to Regina, where Bert was Chief of Maintenance for the Park Avenue Apartments. In this position there was always painting, cleaning, and repairs, and Hilda was willing to help out with whatever needed to be done. She even had time to work seasonally at the Post Office.

Having celebrated 38 years of marriage, Hilda and Bert intended to retire to the farm in the fall of 1979, and had already contracted a house to be built, when Bert died suddenly. The house was moved to Rocanville, but Hilda didn’t stay retired. For the next 15 years Hilda was the librarian at the Public Library and took great interest in her grandchildren, Eddie and Renée.

Hilda had always preferred housework over farmwork and developed great talent and skill at quilting, crocheting, and knitting. In 2004 she accepted that it was too much responsibility to care for her house and yard, so she moved into Prairie View Lodge. Hilda’s health started failing in January of 2013, just around her 91st birthday. She received wonderful care at the Broadview Nursing Home before relocating to the Care Centre at Moosomin, where she went to sleep on the evening of July 10 and entered her eternal rest.

Gone before her are: Her beloved husband Bert; Her parents Guy and Doris Selby; Her brother Thom; and sisters Doris, Edith, and Anne.

Hilda leaves to mourn: Her daughter Bev and son-in-law Ed English; Her grandchildren Eddie (Priscilla) and Renée; Her great-grandchildren Cardish, Kimowan, Sequoyah, and Ashton; Her brother Edgar (Ann); Her in-laws Roy Minty, Eileen Minty, and Doug Windrim; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.
