Maisie Joan, age 86, passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital Saskatoon, Thursday, January 28, 2021. She is lovingly remembered by her Sisters, Gwen Papov and Sally (Ken) Pook, her children Ken Burton, Brenda (Tony) Antonopoulos, Diane (Bob) Kropf, Joanne Baczuk (Dave Dmytriw), Rick (Anna) Burton, Dave (Annette) Burton, son-in-law, Paul Henderson, many grandchildren and literally dozens of great-grandchildren. Maisie was predeceased by her husband Russell (1973), children Larry Burton (2013) and Susan Henderson (2011), sisters Peggy Nightingale, Marie Couch and Shirley Croton, brothers Joseph, Sidney, Victor and Ronald Croton and parents Joseph and Selina Croton.

Maisie was born September 11, 1934 in the town of Elrose, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the Croton family homestead near the town of Wiseton where she met her husband Russell Burton. Together they farmed for a number of years in the Wiseton area before purchasing a larger farm near the town of Kipling. They raised a family of eight children, until Russell’s passing in 1973.

In the years that followed, Maisie moved to the town of Kipling. During this time she worked at Willowdale Lodge.

Upon retirement, Masie enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds, volunteering her time at the local museum, attending local events as well as becoming more involved in activities offered to seniors. In particular she enjoyed being active in the United Church, playing cards and visiting with friends at the Kipling Friendship Centre. In 2019, Maisie moved to St. Anne’s Residence in Saskatoon to be closer to family.

Maisie’s favourite activity was spending time with family. She also loved to travel. During retirement she toured the Maritimes, travelled to Alaska and took the Via Rail train through the Rocky Mountains to visit her sister Sally in Vancouver. More recently she enjoyed shorter trips to Nakusp, Calgary, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat to visit family members.

Maisie was always interested in knowing about her family’s activities. She was very proud of all of their accomplishments, particularly those of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom she showed so much love. She will always be lovingly remembered as Grandma Burton, a lady of strong faith, character and poise.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held, when it is safe to do so, at the Kipling United Church with interment to follow at Lansdowne Memorial Gardens.
