Doreen Blanche Russell was born on a small farm east of Fleming, Sask. on November 7, 1923 to Fannie and Joseph Russell. Doreen grew up on the farm with fond memories of her grandpa and grandma Treliving. She had two brothers Rupert and Robert.

Doreen met and married Author Vincent Banks in October 23, 1948 and of this union they had a daughter, Margaret Hilda Banks. They moved from the farm in the late 50’s to Fleming, where they spent the following years up until Author’s death in 1986.

The three greatest loves of her life were her husband, her daughter and her ball.   Doreen went through many losses that a normal person would not handle but with her faith in God, her family and ball team she lived her life to the fullest.

The Pie Lady
She is known all over the town
as the little old lady who gets around
don’t ask her to do anything at 2
it’s coffee time for her crew
she doesn’t miss a ball or hockey game
but please don’t mention Gretzy’s name
it gets her in a real flutter
and all you here is her mutter
she is known to many as Weenie
perhaps because she’s so teenie
small but mighty as they say
if she’s mad stay out of her way
baking was her specialty
to many far and wide
cookies, cakes, and especially
they came for Grandma’s pie
the pies will never be forgotten
as well as the lady’s loving hands
who brought them.

Sadly missed but deeply remembered by her family and friends.

Doreen was predeceased by her brother Rupert, daughter Margaret, son-in-law Ernest and parents Joseph and Fannie. She is survived by grandchildren Garry (Kendra), Connie and Donnie, great-grandchildren Chason, Chelsey, Colin, Carter and Olivia, Brother Robert (Wendy), sister-in-law Phyllis and special friends Phillip, Ricky and Tina and many, many nieces and nephews.

Doreen passed away at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin on August 11, 2013.
