Our mother was born February 6, 1929 to Wes and Nell Thompson in McAuley, Manitoba where she was raised and received her education. Mum was an outdoor girl and enjoyed playing with her five siblings. She especially liked to speed skate and to participate in other outdoor sports and as an adult she enjoyed curling.

In 1947, she married James (Bud) Lowes and their union produced six children which resulted in 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Mum and Dad lived their married life in McAuley except for a brief move to Kenora, Ontario in the early ‘50s. Dad worked for Lowes Brothers Construction until 1962 when they moved to the present day family farm. Together with a lot of hard work and dedication along with countless sacrifices for her family, they built from scratch a farm that she was very proud of. When Barry and Glenn came of age and Dale returned to the farm in 1980, they all farmed together. In 1990, the decision was made to incorporate the farm and Ja-Lyn Farms was the chosen name. Ja for James and Lyn for Evelyn. She was so proud of this name and that the legacy they built together would carry on. All of us thank her so much for that.

The Lowes girls all lived away from McAuley but Mum followed their lives just as closely and with as much love as those at home on the farm. She loved to talk and visit on the phone, so she was always well aware of what was going on with them. Be it Val and Charlie in Moosomin, Betty and John in all their postings with the RCMP and of course Diane in her travels both in Canada and Arizona.

Mum loved being a home maker and farm wife. She loved cooking and baking, playing free cells on her computer and playing cards with the residents of Sterling Manor. She was also a very talented knitter and we all enjoyed the special things she knit for us and our kids.

She had a keen interest in sports, following first Dad in his hockey and curling and then watching her children and grandchildren as they participated in their sports as well. We think the greatest enjoyment from sports was watching the McAuley Blazers baseball team. Dale, Glenn, Barry and Charlie played at various times and she and Dad enjoyed many holidays following them. She kept score at every ball game she attended and kept these score books for many years.

In later years, she switched her loyalties to the “Blue Jays” and kept up with everything about “Our Team”. She also followed the many curling games on TV throughout the winter.

Mum moved from her home in McAuley to Sterling Manor in Moosomin in 2007 where she resided until her fall in June of this year. Her fall and subsequent surgery resulted in a move to long term care and to her final residence in SEICC where she passed on September 2, 2021 at the age of 92.

She was predeceased by her husband Bud in 2003 and eldest son Dale in 2007 and her parents Wes and Nell Thompson and her four siblings, Ted, Orv, Lisle and Bev. She leaves behind daughter-in-law Bonnie (Nicole, Garth and Jamie, Belinda), daughter Diane Taylor (Murray, Eryn and Brian, Carla), daughter Val Rose (Charlie), (David, Tammy and Brad, Krysta), son Barry (Brenda), (Sheena, Jon and Justin, Samantha and Nevin, Candace), daughter Betty Dryden (John), (Michael, Michelle and Jenny, Todd), son Glenn (Shelley), (Brooke, Cam and Stacy, Shonda), 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Her brother Art still lives and resides in Estevan.

Mum was a kind, caring and fun loving woman and she will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
May she rest in peace.
