Ernest Lawrence, age 79, passed away Wednesday, April 17 at Crocus Cove, Moosomin Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret, sisters Mary and Margaret, brother Harold and brothers-in-law Des, Roy and Harry. He is survived by son Garry (Kendra), daugher Connie, son Donnie, grandchildren Chason, Chelsey, Colin, Carter, Olivia; sisters Gladys and Gwen; sister-in-law Phyllis and many nephews and nieces.

Ernest John Henry Lawrence was born on May 10, 1933, on a farm northwest of Fleming to Robert Victor and Bessie Lawrence. He was the third of six children. This is where the hard work of his father was instilled in him. Ernest left home at an early age to go and work for local farmers and later joined the CP Rail. This would be the job he worked at for 34 years along with the daily farming of his own land.

In the summer of 1970 Ernest met his future wife Margaret through her father Arthur Banks after being invited to the family home for dinner. They settled in Fleming with his parents after marrying on November 21, 1970 and began their family.

Ernest wasn’t a man of many words but always a joker, especially when it came to children, grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. He had a great love and passion for the farm, his animals and a good game of crib. He always tinkered in the shop trying to invent his own version of something that was advertised on TV. Most remember Ernie with a baby finger stuck up in the air and a cigarette dangling from his mouth and the speed he drove.

Ernest was taught and passed on to his children, "Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today."

Funeral service was held at Fleming Cemetery on April 22, 2013 with Rev. Joan Rennie-Laing officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Moosomin and District Healthcare Foundation - Crocus Cove, in memory of Ernie.
