Henry Dueck of Wapella, Saskatchewan passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the Tatagwa Care Home in Weyburn, Saskatchewan at the age of 79 years.

Henry was born May 20, 1942, in Loreburn, Saskatchewan to David and Anna Dueck. They lived in Main Centre where he grew up. He enjoyed farming with his friend Peter and also did carpentry.

On July 25, 1964, Henry was married to Marie Funk. They had three sons and one daughter, who passed away at birth. In 1968, they moved to Calgary, Alberta where Henry had his own construction company called Galaxy Builders, which kept him very busy. In 1974 he purchased land southwest of Wapella. He enjoyed grain farming and also had cattle, horses and elk. He did some construction on the side as well.

In the winter, Henry and the boys looked after the skating rink in Wapella. They enjoyed skating and hockey, with Mom in the stands as their number one fan and support for Dad and the boys. This was a family activity that brought much pride and joy to Henry and Marie.

Henry enjoyed chatting with the neighbors and friends. His family was very important to him, and not a day went by that he didn’t pray for health, protection and love for them. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he especially loved giving them rides on the horses and the quad and spending quality time with them.

Henry’s love of music was shown through playing the guitar and singing hymns with family and friends. You could be guaranteed if you came to visit, there would be guitar playing and singing to end off the visit.

In 2014, Henry was diagnosed with prostate cancer but beat the odds. In May of 2019, he was diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer’s, and by July 9, 2019, he was placed in the Tatagwa Care Home.

Henry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie Dueck; sons Myron Dueck (Rebecca), Darwin Dueck (Dorothy) and Leroy (Juanita) Dueck; grandchildren Monique (Colin) Wagner, Deanna (Curtis) Baker, Andrew (Demara) Dueck, Leah Dueck, Lyndon Dueck, Leslie Dueck, Emily (Cole) Peters and Lauryn Dueck; great-grandchildren Logan, Amy-Lou, Riley, Savannah, Daxon, Lexie, Brixlee, Alexandria and Benedict; brother Elmer (Eva) Dueck; sister Rubina Higgins; sisters-in-law Sarah Dueck and Tina (Wes) Cornelson; and brother-in-law Jake (Jeannette) Funk.

Henry was predeceased by his parents, David and Anna Dueck; parents-in-law Jacob and Helena Funk; brothers John Dueck and Meno Dueck; and other family members.

Henry was a very caring, gentle and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who has left a legacy of memories for all to cherish and remember. Rest in peace.

Henry’s funeral service was held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Whitewood Evangelical-Missionary Church, with the Rev. Dr. Mel Konkel officiating and Renee Oshowy providing the music.
