Allen Douglas Currie, beloved husband, father and brother passed away at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre, Moosomin, Saskatchewan on September 23, 2021 at the age of 70 years.

Allen was predeceased by his parents John and Tina, mother and father-in-law John and Ione Howes, sister MaryLynn, brother Paul and brother-in-law Carl Hunter. He is survived by wife Nicky, son Jason (Debbie): son Dean (Amanda) and daughter Lisa (Ashley). Siblings: Alex (Linda) Currie, Peter (Marg) Currie, Geri Currie (Tim Marushak), Chris Hunter, Kay (Gerald) Arsenault. Siblings-in-law: Mike (Susan) Howes, Danny (Mary Lou) Howes, Colin Howes, Kevin (Val) Howes, Jyl (Blaine) Oliver and Jackie (Chris) Halford. Along with 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

He was born to John and Christina (McPhee) Currie on September 10, 1951. Allen began his schooling at Red Jacket, then on to Moosomin before finishing his high school at St. Peter’s College in Muenster, Saskatchewan. Allen spent time working as a swimming instructor at the Bri-Ma-Del Park at Red Jacket before going to SAIT in Calgary. Upon returning to farm in the Red Jacket area, he married Christine (Nicky) Howes in 1974. Together, they had three children: Jason, Dean and Lisa.

Allen acquired many skills working on the family farm. If any welding or fabricating needed to be done, everyone knew who would be the one to do it. I’m sure his brothers-in-law still have some anchors in their boats or railing on their steps that Allen built. If an engine needed to be rebuilt in the sprayer truck or grain truck, he and brother-in-law Mike would tear it down and make it purr again.

After hanging up the farmer’s hat in 1989, Allen tried his hand at a few different jobs; custom barn painting, plumber’s helper, greenskeeper and a stint at Cluff Lake mine with cousin Greg. However, when a job came up at the Moosomin Curling Rink for an icemaker, Allen was the perfect fit. Allen spent several seasons at the Curling Rink and took pride in the work he did there. I’m sure there are still people who claim the ice hasn’t been the same since Allen and Eric Shire worked there. Allen later went on to work driving a service truck in the Wapella and surrounding oilfield patch. He spent countless hours in the patch and enjoyed having coffee visits with the office ladies. He retired from Three Star Trucking in April of 2019.
Allen was a member of the Moosomin Elks and active in the Moosomin Legion. Allen had 25 years of service with the Legion and was president from 2015-2020. Allen enjoyed curling, the many in and out-of-town bonspiels, family gatherings, BBQ’ing and making his delicious raisin cinnamon bread. He enjoyed attending the Legion where occasionally he might take a grandchild to show off. In recent years he looked forward to his daily visits with Holly, the neighbor’s dog, to give her treats.

Allen’s quiet demeanor and sharp wit will truly be missed by his family and friends. He’ll never be a thought away for as long as there’s a memory that lives in our heart.
