James Elden Fowler was born at the farm, 13-09-32 W1, on April 22, 1930. Elden, as he was most commonly called, loved sports, playing baseball and hockey as a young man and later travelling miles to watch the two sports. When his travelling days were over, he continued to enjoy both hockey and baseball on TV. Elden was the middle of five boys born to James and Rosie Fowler. He grew up on the farm near Mair, Saskatchewan.

After a number of years working off the farm on the pipeline and then in the elevator, Elden returned to his true passion, farming. He continued to farm until he was 80, farming with his son, Harry, and then his grandsons, Courtney and Kade. Eventually Elden took a backseat to active farming but he was always on watch, helping a little here and there as he could, moving equipment from field to field. Elden loved to garden and watch the flowers and the birds. He and Doreen enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives around the country side. He loved to talk about all the changes he had seen in his 91 years.

In January of 2021, Elden’s health took a turn and he moved to Long Term Care in Moosomin. Elden was content and thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the staff at the Long Term Care Home. His face lit up when his family arrived for visits, especially his wife, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Elden passed peacefully in his sleep early on the morning of December 11, 2021. Elden is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doreen, his son, Harry (Deb), and daughters, Barb (Bryan) and Brenda (Rick), grandchildren, Courtney (Taigan), Kelsey (Dustin), Kade (Ashlie), Rebekka (Curtis), Marlee, Ray (Ireland), great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Owen, Ripley, Tucker, Kallie, Rekyn, Blakely, Emerson and Shia, brothers, Howard and Henry (Joan), sisters-in-law, Jeannine and Myra.

Elden will be missed by his wife, children, family and friends. Funeral services will be private. Memorial tributes may be made in Elden’s memory to the Moosomin Long Term Care Home.
