We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loving friend, Karen Elaine Hooper. She passed away the morning of January 16, 2022 in Regina General Hospital at the age of 68, with family by her side.

Karen was born September 19, 1953 in Langenburg, Saskatchewan. She was the third of five children born to Glenn and Jean Orth and grew up on the farm with her siblings Curt, Calvin, Gaylene, and Darren. Karen started school at Ingleside and when the family moved to the farm she continued at Langenburg until graduation. She met and fell in love with Billie Hooper and they were married August 5, 1972 and had two children; Todd (1974) and Theresa (1976). They created a beautiful life together, spending time with their close friends, neighbors and their growing family.

As many are quite familiar, Karen was passionate and gifted in all things that involved food, the company of friends and family, and card games. She spent many years working as a cook in multiple areas including the Rocanville mine, a camp with Cameron Duncan, Morley Clark’s in Spy Hill, Subway in Esterhazy and catering with her mother Jean. In more recent years she baked and cooked delicious treats for her community that she adored. She would never let you leave with an empty belly and showed her love through food. She also loved doing her swimming classes every week, singing hymns and country tunes, and playing cards—everyone welcome. Karen was known to be extremely kind and generous and always welcomed everyone into her heart and home with wide open arms. She had many health challenges but never let them get in the way of enjoying those around her. Her joyful grin is imprinted in our minds and her love and memory will live on in each of us who had the absolute privilege of meeting her.

Karen is predeceased by her brother Calvin and her father Glenn. She is survived by her loving Husband of nearly 50 years Billie; Mother Jean, Children Todd (Holly) and Theresa (Scott); Grandchildren Damian (Shaelyn and great-granddaughter Cali), Jordan, Taylor, Braxton, Liam, Luke and Lily; Siblings Curt (Susan), (Marlene), Gaylene (Rod), Darren (Cyndi) and a large loving extended family consisting of nieces, nephews and many close friends and neighbors. The family would like to add a special thank you to the Kelly family and Rebecca for all the help, support, and comfort you provided.

Due to family circumstances, information for a service to celebrate Karen’s life will be shared at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karen’s name to the local Rocanville 4-H club or the Langenburg Family & Friends Community Foundation Inc.
