Pastor Richard Arthur Barta of Kipling, Saskatchewan passed away on February 28, 2022, at the age of 86 years old.

He was born on a farm in the Kipling district on April 14, 1935, the son of James and Velma (Toth) Barta. He attended Golden Ridge country school near Inchkeith, as well as elementary school in Hamilton, Ontario, then later Kennedy school. After finishing his studies, he worked in Hamilton, Ontario. After five years in Hamilton, he moved back to Saskatchewan to help his father in Kennedy at the family car and agriculture equipment dealership.

In 1958, he married Doris Lydia Szakács, at the Historic Bekevár Church south of Kipling.

Richard spent the first portion of his working career in the automotive industry. He worked in several dealerships mostly as a parts man but also fulfilling many different roles. After learning the business in his family’s dealership, he moved on to Gravelbourg, followed by a stint in Moosomin, then to Regina, and finally back to Moosomin.

Recognizing a call to ministry, he began working as a lay minster for several years before taking ministerial training. Pastor Richard was ordained on April 24, 1991. He took his first pastorate at Calvary Baptist Church in Kipling, Saskatchewan, where he faithfully served for thirty-three years. He retired in 2020 at the age of 85.

He will always be remembered for his kindness to others, his humble attitude and positive gentle nature. Richard was very proud of his Hungarian heritage. He loved to speak Hungarian with his family and friends. Often, they would spend the night singing Hungarian songs. He had a keen interest in politics, sports and was an avid golfer. Richard enjoyed acting and even considered acting school. Richard loved to tell stories of his travels, particularly his trips to Maui and Hungary. Most of all, Richard loved his friends, family and the Lord.

Richard was predeceased by the death of his mother Velma and his father James Barta, and by his brother Jimmy.

He is survived by his loving wife Doris, his sister Mary Sanderson, and his brother Gerry.

Richard is also survived by his five children:
Debbie Hintz, daughters Marnie Drost (Trevor Drost) and Racheal Nordquist (Jeff Nordquist). Greg Barta, daughter Shea Barta (Azeem Khaja), Jasmine Dreger (Heath), Josh Lawrence (Tanis). Pam Augusta (Dale Augusta), son Alex Augusta and daughter Emily Mejia (Adrian Mejia). Darren Barta (Kim Barta), sons Drayson and Kaeden. Candace Bonk (Steven Bonk), daughter Emma. Richard is also survived by his nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Pastor Richard will be held at the Kipling Recreation Center in Kipling, Saskatchewan, on March 18 at 2 pm. with tea and lunch to follow.
