Darlene Joyce was born on July 1, 1940 in Kincaid, Sask. to Stan and Margaret Corbin. The first of six children, Darlene’s childhood was spent making friends with the family pets, learning to sew and bake, and playing with and caring for her siblings as the family grew.

She went to school in Aneroid, then she attended the Moose Jaw Training School and secured a job as a psychiatric nurse working with the mentally ill. She had such a love for children, and would often bring young patients home on a weekend pass, showering each one with love and attention.

After a few years she moved to Vanguard, and met Bob Bachman. They were married in 1962, and soon she was caring for children of her own. First Laurie, then Robby, followed by Greg. Life was busy and they moved often in the early years, chasing the dream of a better life for their family.

In 1972 they moved to Rocanville and bought a home of their own. Darlene was known by all for her love of children, and living near the school meant many knocks at the door for using the bathroom, a band aid, using the phone after a mishap, and sometimes just a little visit. She babysat in her home for 10 years, and between those children and the friends her own family brought home, she became a mom to many. She also catered and cleaned houses for a number of years.

She had a big heart, and any stray cat that showed itself soon had a dish of food and a warm home outside. Her house pets were a great source of enjoyment.

Becoming a grandma made her life complete. Sadly, Bob passed away in 2004, but she kept busy with the things she loved: gardening, bingo, curling, cheering for the Roughriders, going to hockey games, happy hour with friends. Working at the Rocanville Thrift Store became an important part of her life, a wonderful place where friendships were made and a sense of purpose was restored.

After a lengthy illness, Darlene passed away peacefully on March 27, 2014. She is predeceased by her husband Bob; her parents Stan and Margaret Corbin; son-in-law Ron Bomboir; brothers-in-law Calvin Ulm, Wilfred Reisdorf and Jim Bachman; and sister-in-law Dorothy Braaten.

She leaves to mourn her passing daughter Laurie (Doug) Brown; sons Rob (Faith) and Greg (Nancy); grandchildren Brittany (Cody) Pederson, Jared, Dallas, Wyatt, Colby (Alberta Hayden), Mazlynne, and Kaylyne; great-granddaughter Skylar; sisters Doreen (Jack) Rainey, Carol Ulm, Bev Reisdorf, Sharon (Frank) Phillips; brother Dennis (Diane) Corbin; brother-in-law Vern Braaten; sister-in-law June Bachman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be missed.
