Alex was born in the family home at Doonside, Sask. The youngest son of R.A. and Orpha Burke.
He attended Doonside School and after completing grade eight he had to make the choice of going back to school or to go farming. He chose farming and that was his life long career.

On July 4, 1953 Alex married Iris Colborn and together they raised four children. Farming was a lot of hard work, but they found time for camping or Sunday drives. In later years, fishing became the favorite passtime with an always bet of who would catch the largest fish.

Family meant a lot to Alex and he looked forward to their many visits and family gatherings at the farm and later when he and Iris retired in 1995 to their new home in Moosomin.
Alex was predeceased by his father R.A., his mother Orpha, two sisters Dorothy Richardson and Lila Currie and one brother Lionel.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years and three daughters. Michaelene (Dwaine Boon), Beverley (partner Billy Fletcher) and Janice (Rob Sjodin and son Cameron (Diane Cop). Also one granddaughter, six grandsons, three great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
