Murray was born February 23, 1933 on the farm in the R.M. of Archie, at McAuley, Manitoba, the oldest of three three children born to Percy and Mary Barkley.

Murray and Barb were married on November 7, 1959 in McAuley although they were living and working in Calgary at that time. Their oldest son Charles was born in Calgary. They moved back to McAuley in 1960 and following work lived in McAuley, Esterhazy, and Moosomin (1963-1975). During this time three more children were born to them, Coleen, Jackie and Stephen. They moved back to McAuley in 1975 where they lived until retiring to Moosomin in 2009.

Murray worked construction, truck driving, and he was a labourer and farmer. He spent 14 years driving semi, hauling cattle to Winnipeg alongside his good buddy Bob Potter. He started in Moosomin working for Elmer D. Hill and finished his working career in Moosomin working at the auction mart for Sid Dauncey and later John and Don Middleton.

Murray loved a good social time. He liked curling and he spent many retirement hours at the Drop-In in Welwyn and McAuley playing pool and cards. In 1994 Murray and Barbbought a cottage at Lake of the Prairies. Murray loved it at the lake, caring for the yard, chopping wood, riding around on his quad helping and visiting friends and neighbours. He liked to ice fish but most of all became an avid fisherman. He enjoyed going out on the lake in his boat with his tackle and cigarettes. After fishing there was always a good old game of cards, “UNO” or “Dammit” with the neighbours.

He went in to hospital in April 2017 and from there to Long Term Care where he passed away peacefully on June 14, 2019. He was laid to rest in McAuley cemetery July 4, 2019.

Murray was predeceased by his parents Percy and Mary Barkley, sister Eileen Frazer, sister and brother-in law Velma and Les Taylor, son-in-law Richard Dean, and brother-in-lawHuntley Lewis.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara of 59 years, four children Charles (Darlene) Barkley, Coleen (Allan) Webb, Jackie Dean, Stephen (Dana) Barkley, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. Brother-in-law Albert Frazer of Olds, Alta., brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charles and Darlene Lowes of Virden, Man., sister-in-law Joan Lewis of Moosomin, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pam and Bob MacKay of Bedeck, N.S., a large number of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbours.
