Elsie Henry of McAuley, Manitoba passed away at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin, Saskatchewan at the age of 86 years.

Elsie was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan where she met and married the love of her life and best friend, Milton in 1953. Throughout their 67 years of marriage they shared their love of music, horses and farm animals.

Milton and Elsie moved to McAuley in 1964 where she diligently supported Milton in his work at the PFRA Community Pasture. Together they raised four children Derald, Wayne, Lynn and Steven. She was a hard worker as a homemaker, wife and mother. Her freezer was always full of homemade bread, desserts and garden produce. Weekends were filled with music practices and playing for dances. Many a long night was spent playing music with toast and tea for midnight lunch. Every get-together with friends or family included sing-alongs, music and sometimes dancing. In later years Milton and Elsie shared their love of music with others at nursing homes, lodges and music jams.

Elsie loved her flowers and gardening. It was always a good day when Milton tilled the garden in the spring. Summertime brought the fun of horseback riding and attending rodeos.

With retirement came the new adventure of raising buffalo. She loved all her animals and nursed countless many back to health.

It was important to Elsie that family spent as much time together as possible so there were many vacations and reunions. When grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along there were get-togethers at Grandma and Grandpa’s house and weekend camp outs.

Elsie had many friends she considered family. Friends and family found themselves around the kitchen table eating and visiting, leaving the dishes because having “a good visit” was more important.

Elsie is survived by her beloved husband Milton; children Derald (Sharon), Wayne, Lynn (Chris) and Steven (Christy); grandchildren Crystal, Amber (Adam), Amanda, Morgan (Renae), Alicia (Cody), Cole, Makenna and Jessie; great-grandchildren Sierra, Jesse, Nova, Nathen, Piper, William, Lucas and Brandt; siblings Irene Murray, Gordon Huxted and Melvin (Charmaine) Huxted; sisters-in-law Ivy Hodgson and Sharon (Bill) Anhorn; many nieces and nephews, friends and music friends.

She was predeceased by her parents James and Mabel Huxted; siblings Howard (Harriet) Huxted, Joyce (Alex) Berreth; father and mother-in-law James and Reva Henry; sister-in-law Darlene Huxted and brother-in-law Jim Hodgson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Crouse, Dr. Abbarin and all the caring staff at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre. Elsie boasted of the exceptional care she received.

To Mom’s many friends, family and neighbours thank you for all the meals, treats and condolences provided.

Due to Covid-19 gathering restrictions, a limited family service was held at the Carscadden Funeral Chapel in Moosomin on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 1:30 pm. The Service was livestreamed and will remain on Elsie’s tribute page at www.carscaddenfuneralchapel.com.
