As a result of winning $3,000 at the Nutrien Firefighter Rodeo, the firefighter team of the Nutrien Rocanville site decided to donate their prize to Crohn’s & Colitis Canada

“This year, a decision was made that the team could make a donation to the charity of their choice and they chose the Crohn’s & Colitis Canada” said Nancy Apshkrum, who raises funds for the Crohn’s and Colitis.

Crohn’s and Colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes swelling of the tissues (inflammation) in your digestive tract.

The funds donated to the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada go towards research for finding a cure for the disease.

“I’m very grateful for this donation for Crohn’s and Colitis,” said Nancy Apshkrum to the team of firefighters. “You guys deserve some recognition for donating to this cause. The money will go to good use, I can guarantee it, thank you very much.”

Apshkrum has been fundraising for Crohn’s & Colitis Canada for almost 30 years.

She started raising funds for the cause when her son was 12 years old and was diagnosed with the condition.

“I’ve been doing fundraising for many years and I always tell people I’m happy with whatever they can give me,” Apshkrum said.

“I started because my son, Jeff, got Crohn’s. When he got Crohn’s there was so little available to help him then. I just jumped on board thinking the more money they have, the quicker they’re going to find cures and new medication. Jeff is a prime example of how research has come a long way.”

Apshkrum said she is very grateful that the team decided to support the cause.
