Phased service resumption for Wolseley update

In January, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) announced a phased service resumption plan aimed at fully restoring acute and emergency services in Wolseley.

Work on the resumption of Wolseley’s acute services is progressing. A vacant long-term care wing of the hospital is being prepared to be utilized as a temporary Acute and Emergency room space. This will allow the acute and long-term care teams to work together to most efficiently provide services. This work is on target to be completed by the end of February.

The target date for a full resumption of emergency and acute care services at Wolseley will depend on the successful recruitment of appropriate staffing. Currently, there are two Combined Lab and X-Ray Technologist (CLXT) vacancies which will impact our ability to provide services to the community as well as re-opening of emergency room services.

Recruitment efforts underway as part of the Health Human Resource (HHR) action plan have included new incentives for nine hard-to-recruit classifications that are most closely connected to service stability in rural and remote communities, including CLXTs. Specifically, the Saskatchewan Rural and Remote Incentive includes a one-time incentive of up to $50,000 for individuals hired into high-priority classifications in rural and remote locations such as Wolseley.
