Mrs. Davidson’s Grade 3 class visited the World-Spectator on Monday, February 13 to learn all about how the paper works, and about the newspaper’s history.

The students learned about how the paper was started in 1884 and saw some historical artifacts from the paper’s very earliest days. They also learned about all of the different jobs that people working at the paper do today.

The students had lots of good questions, and were thrilled when they were able to see photos of themselves in some of the former issues of the World-Spectator.

They also took a tour of the office, and had a front page printed with a group photo of all of the students and the staff in the World-Spectator office.

There was no doubt the students feel a connection with the newspaper. When Kevin Weedmark asked what the kids know about the newspaper, there were a lot of good answers, and when he asked whose pictures had been in the paper, lots of hands shot up, with kids talking about the hockey, skating, and other photos they had been included in. When he opened a bound volume of World-Spectators showing an aerial photo of Orange Shirt Day at the Moosomin Labyrinth, all the kids remembered the photo and could find themselves in it.
