Saskatchewan Highways is working on design for reconstruction of Highway 8 between Moosomin and Rocanville, but until reconstruction can take place, the highways department is instituting a lower speed limit.

The World-Spectator contacted Saskatchewan Highways last week to find out the timing of repairs to the highway. The highways department responded with news of the lower speed limit.

“To help ensure motorists’ safety, a 24-km segment of Highway 8 requiring repairs between Moosomin and Rocanville will be reduced to 80 km per hour from the current 100 km per hour starting as early as Monday, March 4, 2024,” says the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways. “Signage will be put in place as needed.”

Saskatchewan Highways says it will perform maintenance on the stretch of highway once conditions allow.

“As weather and seasonal conditions allow, the Ministry of Highways will perform ongoing maintenance to this segment of Highway 8 until a reconstruction project occurs,” says the ministry.

The ministry is currently working on a design for the reconstruction of Highway 8 between Moosomin and Rocanville.

“No firm costs are available for a reconstruction project of Highway 8 between Moosomin and Rocanville, as design options are being evaluated,” says the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways.

“This project has been identified as a priority and is part of the ministry’s five-year capital plan.

“The ministry appreciates the patience and understanding of all motorists and reminds drivers to obey all construction and traffic signs.”
