June 7 will be a day to circle on the calendar with Rocanville as the destination for fun as the annual Community Day promises a day filled with activity.
“The day will start off with a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 11 am at the Nutrien Community Hall. Our daycare, Dream Big Daycare, is going to host the pancake breakfast,” said Andrea Logan, Rocanville’s Recreation Director.
“There will be a parade at 11 am. We have quite a few floats entered into the parade already, so I’m hoping it is well-attended. We’re also encouraging our kids to decorate their bikes and get dressed up and be a part of the parade as well.”
This year’s parade has a beach theme with participants meeting in the green space across from the museum grounds. Prizes will be awarded for Most Creative Float, Most Colourful Float, and Best Dressed Float Participants. There will also be a prize for the best decorated bike for the kids, with participants asked to gather at the museum grounds at 10:30 am.
There will be lots of action on main street as a car show will line Ellice Street throughout the day, plus a pop-up market featuring local vendors.
“There’s a kid zone from 10 am to 1 pm at the Rec Centre, and our minor ball group is hosting the kids zone,” Logan said.
There will be minor ball games throughout the day, followed by a sausage and perogy supper over at the Nutrien Community Hall, hosted by the Knights of Columbus from 4-6:40 pm.
“Then we have the Ivan Flett Memorial Dancers that will be putting on a show on for us at 7:30 pm at the Hall as well, which I’m really excited about,” Logan said. “They were on Canada’s Got Talent. They did an amazing job, and they’re a very talented group of dancers, so hopefully that brings out a lot of people.”
Also on the bill is storyteller Jason McKay ‘The Wandering Métis,’ and Jason Lepine will be getting people tapping their feet through his Métis fiddle. Fireworks at the ball diamonds round out the busy day at dusk.
