Council sits down with new EDO

Economic Development Officer Jeff Cole gave his first report to council as the new EDO. Cole wanted to go over the 10-year economic development plan with council and talk about some of the main objectives of the plan, as well as what Gateway Economic Development has been working on.
He went over some of the pillar projects in the plan and talked about some potential businesses and projects that are being looked at for the Moosomin area.
He also said he was working on learning the ins and outs of the Housing Accelerator program, and had faith that there could be more funding available under that program, especially since Moosomin was so successful in meeting its targets quickly under the program.
New backhoe purchase
Council passed a motion to trade in a 2011 John Deere JD backhoe and 2018 John Deere dozer and purchase a new CAT 420XE backhoe for $72,500 plus taxes and fees for the public works department.
Street light suggestions will be reviewed for budget
Council will be reviewing the suggestions of Russell Slugoski as part of their budget for additional street lights at five locations in town. They include: The intersection of Wright Road and Mark Avenue East; The intersection of Broadway Avenue and Henry Street; The intersection of Broadway Avenue and Arthur Street; The intersection of Cook Road and Heritage Place (South); The mid-section of Cook Road north of the railway tracks near the entrance to the Veterinary Clinic.
Five-person construction crew to be formed
Council passed a motion to create a new five-person construction crew as part of the Public Works department made up of the assistant foreman and four existing public works employees. The crew would be dedicated to jobs such as working on water main breaks when they occur, while the other public works employees continue to tend to daily duties in the apartment.
Accessible door openers to be installed at town, library
Council passed a motion to purchase and install three electric door openers for accessibility—two at the town office and one at the library—after reviewing quotes from Creative Door. The openers will cost $11,576 plus taxes.
Discretionary use application for all 10 Black Box condo lots approved
Council approved the application for a discretionary use permit for all 10 commercial condo garage lots in Eastgate Business Park for the Black Box Condos.
Eleven commercial condo bays are planned for Moosomin in Eastgate Business Park for shop and light industrial use. The condos would be located on Saunders Road, just south of the SaskPower building.
Council also approved a home-based building permit for a small indoor cycling studio in Moosomin.
Person hired for deep cleaning arena bathrooms
Council made a motion to approve hiring a person to do a deep cleaning every Friday on the bathrooms at the Mike Schwean arena, both upstairs and downstairs in the dressing rooms, so that they are fully cleaned ahead of every weekend at the arena. The bathrooms by the Convention Centre will also be deep cleaned on an as-needed basis.
