It was a big weekend for the Moosomin Elks on October 17 and 18 when the club celebrated its 75th anniversary, and also hosted the Saskatchewan Elks Association’s 50th annual Walkathon which raises money for the Saskatchewan Pediatric Auditory Rehabilitation Centre (SPARC).

The Moosomin Elks also sold 50/50 tickets and held a silent auction for Playfair Daycare that weekend, raising $4,400.

“Seventy-five years of working to make a community better is impressive,” said Mayor Murray Gray at the anniversary supper. “You don’t have to look very far around the community in order to see the things that the members of the Elks have accomplished over the years. We’ve had bingos and tractor pulls—many, many small fundraisers that have made our community what it is today, and that is something the community should be very, very thankful for, for the dedication and leadership that it takes for an organization like the Elks to exist for 75 years.”

“Seventy-five years is really amazing,” said Moosomin-Montmartre MLA. “That’s three quarters of a century of service, fellowship, and community service.

“During that time the Elks have been a big part of what makes Moosomin so special. And what makes the Elks so special isn’t just the projects and the fundraising, it’s the people, the volunteers who give their time, the members who look out for their neighbors, and the friendships that have formed under this banner of service.

“This is 75 years of giving, building, organizing and supporting and doing it all without seeking credit or recognition. The Elks really have played a part in just about everything in Moosomin. You walk around and you see the Elks housing, you see the Elks diamond out at the ball park, in every corner of town you see the effects of what the Elks have done over the years.”

“When I went through my term as president, there was the past, the present and the future, and when you look around the room at each other, we have the young ones that hopefully will join for the future, we have those who are here for the present, and we have the past. Seventy-five years of Elkdom is a tremendous accomplishment,” said Grand Lodge Rep Eugene Hartter.

“I’ve been a district rep for 28 years and I’ve seen quite a few lodges close and you meet up with them afterwards and they say it is a tragic loss. So as Elks we are going to be going through with this motto to hopefully have the younger people realize what we do and publicize what we do and continue those years of Elkdom.”

“I would like to extend congratulations to the Moosomin Elks Lodge on their 75th anniversary,” said Saskatchewan Elks President Gordon Brown. “What an incredible milestone. Your dedication, service and commitment to the community over the decades are truly inspiring.

“Here’s to continued service, fellowship and many more years of making a difference together.”

“I do want to thank all the members past, present, and the ones we lost that I dearly love,” said Moosomin Elks president Ron Potter.

“You can drive around this town and look at any project—the rink, hospital, swimming pool, homes, ball diamonds, pickleball court, tennis courts, soccer fields—they all have a piece of the Elks in them, whether it’s by hand and hard work, or money. We support everything that needs to be supported. We’ve had some sick kids in this town that have needed help. We pull in real quick and get that handled and off they go.

“That’s what we are about. We are here to help.”
