Bylaw amendment approved for biathlon range

At their regular meeting on October 23, Esterhazy town council approved a bylaw amendment that adds publicly or privately operated recreation facilities as a discretionary use within the Agricultural Resource District.
The change was made to accommodate the Esterhazy Ski Club’s plans to introduce a biathlon range for the upcoming season.
The land for the biathlon range is located just east of the town’s landfill.
Flag policy approved
Council discussed and approved a new flag policy for the town. This policy establishes clear guidelines for flag displays at municipal facilities, and determines what kinds of flags can be displayed.
Traffic bylaw amendment
Council also approved administration to proceed to draft an amendment to the traffic bylaw to include a change for crosswalks.
Friends and Fairways Golf
Tournament raises over $107,000
Financial results from the first annual Friends and Fairways Golf Tournament were presented. The event raised $107,736.11, with all proceeds directed toward the Integrated Health Facility Project.
Landfill clay capping
A motion was approved to purchase clay for capping at the landfill.
“There was a farmer just on the outskirts of Esterhazy that has a new build and he had around 2,500 yards of clay and asked if we wanted it for capping at the landfill and gave us a very good deal,” said Mayor Randy Bot. “We paid just over $13,750 for it.”
Future recycling program changes
Council discussed the potential to transition to the Saskatchewan Recycling Program for curbside recycling. A subcommittee has been formed to explore the details and implications of this new direction.
