The 2026 Bunge Prairie Pinnacle Women’s Provincial Curling Championship was held in Melville from January 5-11. Nine of the best teams battled for provincial supremacy. The event had plenty of local talent on display.

Rachel Big Eagle of Maryfield is the second for team Campbell, which will be moving on to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts after the championship. She is no stranger to success on the curling ice and this event was no exception.

It was not a good beginning for team Campbell. Their first game was against team Tisdale. Tisdale scored in each of the first four ends to take a commanding 6-0 lead into the fifth end break. Team Campbell got on the board with one in the sixth before team Tisdale put up three in the seventh to make the final 9-1 in favour of team Tisdale.

After the opening defeat, Team Campbell rattled off six consecutive wins:
Team Martin 4 Team Campbell 7
Team Enge 6 Team Campbell 10
Team Orsted 2 Team Campbell 9
Team Barker 7 Team Campbell 12
Team Miller 6 Team Campbell 9
Team Selzer 6 Team Campbell 10

The winning streak had team Campbell in position to claim the top spot in the round robin. All they had to do was beat team Thevenot, who had yet to lose a game. It was the final game of round robin play. It did not go Team Campbell’s way. Thevenot cruised to a 9-4 victory. Despite the loss, Campbell still clinched a spot in the 1 vs 2 page playoff game. Which happened to be a rematch against team Thevenot.

In the tenth end team Campbell used a crowded house to her advantage. Team Campbell didn’t even have to throw their final stone. Team Campbell wons 4-3.

Rachel Big Eagle is going back to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. She had previously gone twice with team Zacharias as a Wild Card. This is the first time she will represent Saskatchewan at the event and also the first Scotties she will be at which will also have fans in the stands.

Despite all of the success Big Eagle has enjoyed, she has stayed humble and true to her roots. She has not forgotten where she came from.

“I am thankful to come from the community of Maryfield, a community so supportive of curling, supporting our dreams,” Big Eagle says. “High school curling to winter games—I know we will have their support.”

Esterhazy’s Team Enge finishes 3-5
Team Enge curls out of Esterhazy. They finished with a 3-5 record at the Women’s Provincial Curling Championship, but every game was competitive and could have gone either way.

Despite falling short of making the playoffs, lead Jasmine Kerr was pleased with the experience.

“It was such a fun week!” Kerr says. “Although we didn’t get the result that we wanted, I was grateful to be able to compete in this event with such great teammates, ice, and competitors. It was extra special to be able to experience provincials together this year with my twin sister Jade and my Dad!

“Also, seeing so many people in the stands coming to support us was the icing on the cake. Thank you to Melville for hosting such a top-notch event!”
