Town-wide garage sale set for May 30

At their regular council meeting on March 9, Kipling Town council set the dates of some upcoming spring events.

The date for the town-wide garage sale has been set for Saturday, May 30 this year. The town office is asking that anyone who will be hosting a garage sale that day let them know so that they can compile a list of garage sales to share for the day.

The annual Klean-up Kipling date has also been set for May 9, with May 23 being set as an alternate date if the weather is not favorable on May 9. People will be encouraged to clean up their yards that day and there will be free access to the landfill.

Interest in town jobs
In her Mayor’s Report, Mayor Pat Jackson reported that she attended a career fair at the school with new rec director Tara Carter, and that there were a number of students who appeared interested in working for the town or rec department, not just from Kipling, but from nearby communities like Broadview and Grenfell as well.

Smile cookies and swimming pass donation
Rec Director Tara Carter reported in her rec report that once again town staff will be supporting the Tim Hortons in Kipling during the spring Smile Cookie campaign by volunteering to decorate smile cookies.

It was also reported that the town will be donating a family season swimming pass to the Lions auction for the splash park on April 11.

Ball diamond kitchens being tendered, seasonal campsites being offered
The town will be tendering out the ball diamond kitchen for the spring and summer months and contacting local service clubs to see if they are interested in applying for the tender to provide food at the kitchen during ball and soccer season.

The town will also be offering seasonal campsites at the campground this year. There will be five seasonal sites available at a cost of $2,600 for the season.

Small increase for weekly pool passes
Council passed a motion for a small increase in individual weekly pool passes and weekly family pool passes.

Individual weekly passes will go from $30 to $35 a week and weekly family passes will go from $95 to $100 a week.

Town supports veterans banners on power poles
The town sent a letter to SaskPower letting SaskPower know they support the local Legion’s request to put up veteran banners on the power poles in Kipling.

April meeting date changed
Council made the decision to move the April council meeting to April 20 due to the SUMA convention from April 12-14.
