Cory Smith, the man charged with stealing $46,000 from the Esterhazy Minor Hockey Association, will appear in Esterhazy Provincial Court on Tuesday, May 12 to enter a plea.
Smith was in court last Tuesday, March 10 where it was determined that he will enter a plea in Esterhazy on May 12.
Smith has been charged with one count of theft over $5,000 after he was accused of stealing $43,000 through e-transfer and $3,000 in cash from Esterhazy Minor Hockey Association in 2025.
EMHA president Glen Simon said the board began investigating the theft in July of 2025 before handing the investigation over to the RCMP. Smith was the treasurer for the Esterhazy Minor Hockey Association.
The EMHA also suspended the ability for any individual to do electronic funds transfers, and said they will be returning to the practice of using cheques with dual signatures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
