A precautionary drinking water advisory was issued on June 16 in Rocanville after a chemical overfeed.
“We ended up having some pink water, which was an over feed of potassium permanganate in our system,” explained Administrator Tanya Strandlund. “It’s not super harmful, it’s actually cleaning our water more than it is bacteria, but we still have to get all the information out to people and do not drink it.”
The item was included in Strandlund’s Administrator Report to Rocanville Town Council during last week’s regular meeting on June 18. She is hopeful the PDWA will be taken off this week, but that will be officially determined after two water samples taken 24 hours apart meet required standards.
“We were hoping for Friday, but with those two tests taken 24 hours apart, it just didn’t quite work,” Strandlund explained.
The samples reveal whether or not bacteria exists in the water, adequate disinfection, and if there is acceptable turbidity. Some residents last Thursday had already been reporting that the water had cleared.
Curb removals
Council approved a pair of curb removals on Garry Street last week. A small chunk of curb at 208 Garry Street was proving ‘more annoying than useful,’ and the removal at 312 Garry Street will accommodate a circular driveway at that property.
“They have the ‘in’ and now they need the ‘out’ on the other side,” Strandlund said. “They still are within the policy of double driveway on each lot.”
Summer Council meetings change
Town Council meetings in July will happen on the 9th and 23rd, and in August on the 13th and 27th.
Roto-rooter request
After receiving a request from 212 Carlton Street, council decided to reimburse the property owner fully with a refund of $393.20.
“Our policy is that anything over 20 feet from the house, the town will consider paying for because you don’t know where those tree roots are coming from,” Strandlund explained. “These ones, we are going to cover 100 per cent of the roots because they were between 80 and 90 feet from the house.”
Library Board appointments
The annual appointment of who sits on the Rocanville Public Library Board was also approved. Comprising the board this year are President Angela Craig, Vice President Rhonda Vegso,Treasurer Ron Reed, and Secretary Jeri Waldo.
“There are other members at large, but we don’t have to appoint those,” Strandlund said.
Tree removal
A quote from Woodchuck Services was approved for tree and stump removal around Rocanville. The removal will cost $7,000 plus applicable taxes, and work begins this week.
