For more than 20 years the Carlyle District Lions Club has been hosting their annual supper and auction fundraiser, and this year is no different, with a lineup of special guests attending.
Tim Sedor is the president of the club, which has 30 members and meets on the first Tuesday of every month, and the chairman of the event, and he said that people will not be disappointed when they come to the evening. This is the biggest fundraiser that the club holds in the year, and it is coming together nicely.
The club’s motto is “Help us to help you,” and through this motto they give back to the community tenfold. Tickets have been on sale for a while through members of the club or other organizations. Organizations that sell tickets will see a donation returned to their club. Last year the Lions handed out over $52,000 to local clubs.
The evening will consist of a meal catered by Wier’s catering, followed by a live auction. Auctioneer Ward Cutler will once again return to do the honours. Cutler is a world-famous auctioneer who was raised in Carlyle. For 15 years he had performed the auctioneer duties at the event but was unable to continue because of being so busy.
They are excited to have Cutler return and bring his experience to the event. Cutler is a world champion auctioneer, and he always gets the crowd going to bring in bids. Lion members will be out on the floor to make sure everyone is looked after.
Not only will there be a live auction, but there will also be multiple items available on the silent auction table. These items are usually donated by local and area businesses and residents. 50/50 tickets will be sold throughout the night, which also brings in a hearty amount.
The excitement does not end there. On stage after the supper and auction will be Doc Walker. Doc Walker is a Juno and Multi CCMA Award winning band. The performance will begin around 9 p.m. This is sponsored by Regal Autobody and Carlyle GMC. Sedor feels that people do not want to miss this as the music will be great.
There will be an after party with DJ Dale Orsted until 1 a.m. Orsted brings a wide range of music to keep the crowd on the dance floor.
Sedor said this is a community focused event that takes a lot of volunteers. Everyone does a great job of getting things done. The Lions club hopes to see a full house, as the more that attend, the more they can give back to community.
