Moosomin residents will have a full afternoon of activities to choose from on Canada Day. Communities in Bloom chair Angela Thorn shared plans for the celebration during the chamber meeting, saying several community groups have partnered to put together the annual event.
“This is our third annual classic car show,” Thorn said.
The Classic Car Show will run from 2-5 p.m. in the Nutrien Sportsplex parking lot and will feature a lineup of classic and custom vehicles.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to vote for their favourite vehicle. There will be beer gardens on site at the Nutrien Sportsplex deck.
The Moosomin Visual Arts Centre will host an art show from 2-5 p.m. in the Sportsplex gazebo, with artwork by local artists on display throughout the afternoon.
At 3 p.m., residents are invited to Remax Court in Bradley Park for the annual Parks and Recreation Awards. The afternoon will also include the official opening of several new recreational amenities, including the Pat McDonald Golf World, the West Points Best Friends Dog Park and the new pickleball courts.
A free community barbecue will follow the ceremonies.
In addition to Canada Day plans, Thorn also updated the committee on a new tourist information stop being developed at the edge of town.
“We’ve been trying to get a tourist information rest stop for years,” she said.
The project will convert a donated grain bin into a tourist information site featuring a gravel parking lot, walkways, planters, a picnic table and a community message board. Plans also include a hockey history display and a selfie station.
Businesses will also have an opportunity to advertise on the message board, and one advertising space will be given away through a community draw.
Thorn encouraged residents to come out and enjoy the Canada Day festivities and support the volunteers and organizations.
