Envision Counselling recently opened two locations in Moosomin and Rocanville to help people in rural communities access counselling.
Rapid Access Counsellor Cam Brown recently moved to Moosomin and is located in the Broadway Commons building on Main Street and is in Rocanville on Tuesdays at the Medical Centre.
It is free counselling and anyone can reach out to Envision Counselling at 306-453-2405.
Brown introduced herself to Chamber members at the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce meeting on Monday.
“I am Cam Brown. I just moved to Moosomin in April and started working as a Rapid Access Counsellor with Envision Counselling. I have an office in the Broadway Commons on Main Street.
“Rapid access counselling is an immediately accessible form of counselling. It is all over the province, I’m based out of Moosomin, but I’m trying to get more local people to come see me. I do four days in Moosomin and then one day in Rocanville on Tuesdays.
Raven Daer of Envision Counselling attended the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce meeting on Monday and spoke about the services Envision offers to Southeast Saskatchewan.
“Envision is available all across southeast Saskatchewan, we have offices in Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Oxbow, and now Moosomin and Rocanville. We help people that are going through a really tough time in their life, whether that is a traumatic event or experience, such as loss of a loved one, perhaps separation, divorce, or struggles within homes, but we also do outreach, so education workshops that could look like women’s empowerment, we do first responders to sexual assault training, you name it, we pretty much do it.”
Free counselling
Daer says Envision Counselling offers free counselling services to all ages.
“We see almost everybody from ages five all the way up to senior folks. Our counselling is free. That is one thing that we really try to promote because a lot of folks within the communities think, I can’t afford support, but it’s free.
“You can call any of our locations and book in, and what’s really cool about Cam’s program is that you can get in within up to 48 hours, so if you pop on the Counseling Connect website, you can find a counsellor all across Saskatchewan that is readily available to talk to you, sometimes as early as that day.”
Brown adds, “In Moosomin, I only see individuals 12 years or older, but that doesn’t mean that if a child needed some support that we couldn’t connect them with someone within the organization.”
Stream of clients
Brown says she is seeing lots of new clients coming to see her in Moosomin.
“Since I last spoke with the World-Spectator it has been quite busy, which has been really, really good. Sometimes there are cancellations and no shows, but I’m finally getting a stream of people coming in, which is really nice.”
Brown explains she helps people with all sorts of counselling.
“You can come to me with absolutely anything. We are a trauma-informed approach, solution-focused approach. So it really can be for absolutely anything.
“The only thing we don’t do is provide a diagnosis,” said Daer. “We’ll help to refer somewhere else. We’ll never leave someone hanging or let them fall through the gaps, so we also refer to outside agencies as well.”
Expansion to Moosomin and Rocanville
Envision Counselling is a provincial service and saw the opportunity to grow in Southeast Saskatchewan with providing a location and services in Moosomin and Rocanville.
“We saw that there was a gap in mental health services here that are free, and that is always our goal at Envision, is to just continue helping more people across the province,” explained Daer.
“We have a lot of different streams of funding, so whether that be the Government of Saskatchewan, Ministry of Justice, we have pools that kind of come in from everywhere, and a lot of it does come from community and public donations as well,” said Daer. “We thought Moosomin and Rocanville were great communities for us to be in.”
