Shirley Jean Robertson died peacefully at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre, Moosomin, Saskatchewan on May 26, 2025, surrounded by her family and friends.

Shirley was born June 2, 1942 in Moosomin, Saskatchewan to Nels and Dorothy Steffenson. She was a pesky younger sister to Phyllis 1938, Harvey 1940 and a doting older sister to Brenda 1950.

Shirley grew up running around the farm with her cousins, friends, and siblings and was quite the track and field athlete. She is remembered as being a good friend, generous and fair, even in childhood.

Shirley spent her early adult years working at banks and credit unions in Moosomin, Winnipeg, and Regina.

She returned to Moosomin in 1967 to marry David Robertson and join him on his family farm in the Spring Creek District southwest of Moosomin. They worked hard –on top of caring for the home, Shirley could plow a field, drive the grain truck, and herd the cattle– and they loved each other deeply.

She and David had four children Lindsay, Tara (Russ), Jamie (Jeannine), and Aaron (Anne), and six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Her family was Shirley’s pride and joy. She often remarked how lucky we all were to love each other and to love spending time together.

Many gatherings were held at The Hamiota Hotel which Dave and Shirley bought together in 2000. They made many friends running the restaurant and bar until their retirement in 2022.

Once the kids were grown, Shirley and Dave took to the road. They travelled to both coasts of Canada, through the U.S. and all the way down to Mexico. They often took one or both of their mothers and Grandpa Gordon with them. Of all of these travels though, she mostly loved driving around the countryside, taking in the local sights and “watching the crops grow”.

In the last months of her life, Shirley was surrounded by her many loved ones and had constant visitors. Her face lit up whenever anyone walked through her door and she was quick to wrap them in a hug.

She was predeceased by her father Nels, mother Dorothy, step father Gordon Williscroft, her parents-in-law James and Winnifred Robertson, sister Phyllis, her brothers-in-law Danny Ireland (husband of Brenda), Gerry McDougall (husband of Phyllis), Brian and Terry Robertson, (brothers of her husband David), Fred Crashey (husband of David’s sister Vicki), Georgette Robetson (wife of Brian Robertson), and her nephew Stephen Ireland (son of Brenda).

Shirley’s memory lives on in the hearts of all who loved her. She is survived by her husband and children, grandchildren Mandalyn, Dan, Mikaela (Kyle), Ashley (Matt), Alexa (Richard), and Simon (Sarah), and great grandchildren Kein, Finley, River, and Jake; as well as by her sister Brenda, her brother Harvery (Blanche), her sisters in law Vicki Crashley and Loretta Robertson, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held for her at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at 716 Main St. Moosomin, on Tuesday July 15 at 1 pm. All are welcome. Following a private interment, the family welcomes friends for a time of fellowship in the Hamiota Hotel Bar from 6-8 pm.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Fraser-Woodside and the care team at The Southeast Integrated Care Facility for the thoughtful and excellent care they provided to mom and to our family as a whole. She also received wonderful care from the Allan Blair cancer clinic and The Pasqua Hospital in Regina.
