It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Natalia Nadia Mather on April 29, 2026, at Toronto General Hospital, surrounded by family.

Natalia was born on March 16, 1947, in Pine River, Manitoba where she grew up and attended school. She went to work at a young age. She worked at the Cafe at the local bus depot and trained as a nurse where she got a job at the Brandon Psychiatric Hospital. She continued to train as a Special Care Aid, where she got a job at the Moosomin Nursing Home and Pioneer Nursing Lodge until she took an early retirement.

On April 12, 1975, she married Larry and they purchased a farm in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, where she loved helping Larry with the farm, driving the tractor and combine. She loved helping with the cattle, especially when the calves where born. She loved watching the birds and wildlife that would walk around the farm. But her passion was the love she had for her cats and dogs. After almost 50 years of farming, Natalia and Larry sold the farm and moved to Thunder Bay in July of 2023 to be closer to family.

Natalia leaves behind her husband Larry of 51 years, daughter Mary Jayne (Raymond) Smith; granddaughter Amanda Jayne Smith; brothers Edward of Thunder Bay; John of Rock Creek, B.C.; Joe (Jeannine) of Yellowknife, NWT and step-sister (Helen) of Winnipeg as well as other aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Natalia is predeceased by her father Wasyl (2011); mother Jean (1949); step-mother Sabina (1988); brother Clifford (2008); brother Murcel (2024), sister Sonia (2025); step-sister Alice (2026); step-sister Emily Lewicky and step-brother Alyin Pylpiw as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

Natalia’s family would like to express their extreme appreciation for the care and compassion given to Natalia and her family by all the staff at the Toronto General CVICU as well as Dr. Henderson at the Curans Heart Centre in Thunder Bay.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Moosomin, Saskatchewan.
