Patricia Lochhead passed away peacefully in Hamilton, Ontario on December 22, 2020 at the age of 88. Her sons Colin and Allan were at her side, as was the spirit of her late daughter Merrill. Patricia’s memory lives on through her children and their partners, Svitlana and Sonia respectively, in her eight grandchildren, Alyssa, Brendan, Tavis, Stefan, Danika, Ivana, Marina and Neven, and through her brother Gary, his wife Heather and many nieces and nephews. Patricia was predeceased by her mother and father, Agnes and Frederick Poole, and siblings, Jack, Bill, Audrey, Ruth and Shirley.

Patricia was born and raised near Manson, Manitoba. With a creative mindset, she went on to attend and graduate from the School of Art at the Regina College in Saskatchewan. It was there that she met educator and artist Kenneth Lochhead. They married in 1952 and were part of an influential, vibrant art scene that continued through the early 1960s. Patricia and Kenneth lived in Regina, in the nearby town of Balgonie, and then in Winnipeg. Travels included a sabbatical year in Rome and summers at Emma Lake in northern Saskatchewan.

The next stage of Patricia’s life was one of challenges and adventures. Patricia lived in France, sought out kinships in England, visited Mexican artisans, learned to fly a glider and embraced her role as a ballerina dance mom. She set up residence in the Riverdale neighbourhood in Toronto and over the next two decades pursued her passion for textiles and supported civic engagement. During this time, Patricia worked for the Toronto Historical Board at Mackenzie House and at the Black Creek Pioneer Village. In 1997, Patricia retired to Kingston and then to Almonte where, in her sunlit studio filled with handlooms, she transformed her complex drawings into vibrant, contemporary weavings.

The family will be forever grateful for the kindness and support of the staff at the Idlewyld Manor (Hamilton, Ontario) and earlier at the Richmond Care Home (Richmond, Ontario).

A service and celebration of life for Patricia will take place in the spring of 2021 in Almonte, Ontario. Details will be announced at a later date. A memorial page with photos (media) can be viewed at: https://www.arbormemorial.ca/en/dbancaster/obituaries/patricia-lochhead/59825
