On October 25, 2021, at 8:40 pm, officers from the Virden RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision that occurred on Highway 21, located approximately five kilometres west of Sioux Valley.

Officers attended the collision and located the victim, a 17-year-old female from the Birdtail Sioux First Nation, on the roadway. She had been struck by a vehicle. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Initial investigation has determined the victim was travelling in a vehicle that stopped on Highway 21, where she then exited the vehicle and was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver of the passing vehicle, a 35-year-old female from the RM of Wallace-Woodworth who was not physically injured, stopped at the scene and then immediately called 911.

The vehicle that the victim was travelling in fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. This vehicle was later located in Virden and seized for further investigation.

Virden RCMP, with support from the Criminal Collision Investigation Team, an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, Forensic Identification Services and RCMP Major Crime Services continue to investigate.
