Lots coming up for Canada Day weekend

The Canada Day weekend is going to be a busy one across the region, with many communities hosting events to mark Canada’s birthday and to celebrate the long weekend.


Pump Track Grand Opening and Barbecue, Moosomin
The weekend’s events will start with the grand opening barbecue for Moosomin’s pump track at Bradley Park on Thursday evening,

There will be speeches, a ribbon cutting, kids' races, certificates, candy and prizes for the grant opening event at 5:30 pm Thursday.

Following the grand opening, there will be a free barbecue at RE/MAX Court srtarting at 6 pm.


Canada D’eh and Cowboy Mounted Shooting, Moosomin
It will be a busy weekend at Bradley Park in Moosomin with the Kin Canada D’Eh events on Friday, July 1, and a Cowboy Mounted Shooting event Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3.

“The Kinettes and Kinsmen are planning a Canada D’eh event for Friday, July 1, we’re really excited to be providing a fun and mostly free event to Moosomin on Canada Day,” Alyssa Jeannot of Moosomin Kinettes says.

“It’s an all day event where we have a slow pitch tournament starting in the morning. Games will begin at 9 a.m. We plan to have beer gardens all day, we’re putting the word out for anyone who is interested in busking at the beer gardens.”

Jeannot said there will also be bouncers throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The Kinsmen have also decided to host a Show and Shine Car Show at Bradley Park. As well Jarrod (Slugoski) will be hosting the Community Market that same day as well,” said Jeannot. “At the end of the day, we will move things to the outdoor rink where people can gather and watch the firework show at dust, followed by a performance from Shifty Morgan for the rest of the night.”

Also on Canada Day in Moosomin, there will be free public swimming at the Borderland Co-op Aquaplex from 1-5 pm, along with a bouncy tent and inflatable waterslide.

The Saskatchewan Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association is hosting a Canada Day weekend event in Moosomin Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3. The event will start at 4 pm Saturday and at 9 am Sunday. This event mixes riding with target shooting.


Bobby Vargo Tournament, Kipling
Thursday, June 30 to Saturday, July 2 will be the 10th annual Bobby Vargo Memorial Slow-Pitch Tournament in Kipling.

Friday, July 1 will include a pancake breakfast, a bounce tent, petting zoo, face painting, balloon art, dunk tank, treasure dig, a home run derby, and lots of events at the pool including the Splash For Cash at 7 pm.

The day will cap off with the Town of Kipling fireworks.

There will be ball games all three days, and Saturday night will feature the Kipling Kid Care Cabaret 9:30 pm.


Elkhorn Canada Day events
Canada Day is always a huge event in Elkhorn with events both in town and at the museum site.

The day will feature a pancake breakfast outside the RM office starting at 8 am, and a parade beginning at 12:30 pm down Cavendish Street North and Richhill Avenue East.

There will be lots of activities at the Manitoba Automobile Museum grounds for Canada Day, including a barbecue lunch, kids’ activities, a threshing display, blacksmith display, sawmill display, cold plate supper, and a spark show at dusk, followed by fireworks.


Redvers Canada Day events
Redvers has a full day of events planned for Canada Day.

Redvers’ Canada Day celebration will begin with a Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast from 8-11 am.

There will be a slow pitch tournament starting at 9 am, and a Firemen’s Rodeo starting at 10 am.

The Canada Day parade will go at 1 pm.

There will be a bouncy castle set up from 1:30 to 4:30 pm.

More Firemen’s Rodeo events will take place from 2-4 pm

There will be kids crafts at the log cabin at 4 pm.

There will be a food concession and beer gardens all day.

Redvers’ Canada Day celebrations will wrap up with fireworks at dusk.
