Moosomin Parks and Recreation are thrilled to be planning their first Mock Wedding fundraiser for June 17 where all of the proceeds will go towards purchasing a virtual trophy case for the MCC Center.

The Mock Wedding will have everything that a typical wedding would, including a bride, groom, flower girl or boy, along with the maid of honor and best man.

People are able to nominate who they would like to see be part of the mock wedding and have until Feb. 28 to submit nominations, which can be submitted through the parks and rec Facebook page, or emailed to a.campbelltownofmoosomin@sasktel.net

“The mock wedding is basically a fake wedding,” said Casey McCormac Economic Development Officer.

“Right now we’re getting people to send in nominations and then we’ll check with them to see if it’s alright.

“Then starting March 1, we’ll post all the nominations on Facebook and get people to like the photo of the person they want, and whoever has the most likes will be our bride, groom, maid of honor, best man and flower girl or boy.”

People who submit nominations will also be entered in a draw for the chance of winning a $100 Sportsplex Gift Certificate, which can be used at MCC simulators or the bowling alley.

McCormac said parks and recs is really excited to be planning the fun event, and are hoping to make it an annual fundraiser in the future.

“We already have a minister to marry the ‘couple’, and Murray Gray will be MCing,” she said.

“There will also be pre-cocktails at the Sportsplex then for the actual wedding we’ll move over to the MCC.

“I think a lot of people are going to want to come. We have a lot of nominations of people younger in their 20s and also of people in their 40s and 50s. We’re hoping that brings a big range of people.

“If we have enough nominations and voting, we might even do two couples like an older couple and a younger couple just to get a wider range of people to come out.”

Aside from the event happening to raise enough money for the virtual trophy case, McCormac said they also want to provide a space for people to come out and have a good time.

“After the wedding, it will just be the dance part of the wedding where we’ll have a DJ so that people can enjoy some drinks and dance,” she said.

“It’s going to be a great time,” added Amber Campbell, Assistant Recreation Director.

“We’re possibly thinking this could also be an annual event if all goes well. This will give something for people to look forward, to it’s also at the beginning of the summer so it will help to kick off summer.”

Recreation is aiming to raise $10,000 for the virtual trophy case. McCormac explained what exactly the digital display will be used for.

“The virtual trophy case is a display that people can click on to view pictures of athletes,” said McCormac.

“We’ll be doing every kind of sport like hockey, figure skating, soccer, football, it will have everything on it.

“It’s just a way to display all of the achievements without needing all of the room for everything because it will be on a big screen. There’s also QR codes where you can download the pictures from the TV.”

How to buy tickets for the fundraiser
Moosomin’s Mock Wedding will be taking place on Saturday, June 17. The event is open to people of all ages.

Tickets to attend the event will be $20, and will go on sale on March 1.

There will also be raffles such as a 50/50 draw at the event, to help raise money for the virtual trophy case.

“Right now people can send in their nominations, then on March 1 they can start voting and buying their tickets for the event,” said McCormac.

“We also thought that instead of bringing a wedding gift people can donate to the trophy case.”

After all of the nominations are submitted by Feb. 28, voting will start on March 1, and go for about a week until the positions are decided for the mock wedding party.

“It’s going to be exciting,”said Campbell.

“It’s going to be all of the fun a wedding has without all of the stress that a wedding has. That’s why we want people to come out, to just have fun.”
