The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has successfully recruited additional health-care staff for Wolseley and District Hospital, moving the SHA another step forward in its phased service resumption plan. The plan, which was announced in January, is aimed at fully restoring acute and emergency service in Wolseley.

“We are really pleased to tell the people of Wolseley and area that we have successfully recruited two Registered Nurses (RNs),” said Dan Drummond, Director, of Primary Care (Southeast), Saskatchewan Health Authority. “Also, we are very excited to work with the community on welcoming the first RN recruited from the Philippines this past year. This individual is scheduled to join us in late fall.”

New recruits will spend the next three weeks working through onboarding, orientation, and skill upgrading. Their training will cover a range of areas including acute care, emergency room (ER) services, long-term care, and primary health care.

The new recruits will first focus on providing outpatient services and assistance at the Primary Health Care Clinic. Recruitment efforts continue for the community, particularly for two full-time Clinical Laboratory X-Ray Technicians (CLXTs). The Ministry of Health is also offering a one-time rural and remote recruitment incentive of up to $40,000 to health-care workers in high-priority positions, such as CLXTs, in rural and remote locations such as Wolseley.

The SHA remains committed to fully restoring emergency and acute care services in Wolseley, working together with community leaders towards a full-service resumption date in the near future.

Recruiting efforts are underway provincially, nationally, and internationally through the Government of Saskatchewan’s Health Human Resources Action Plan (saskatchewan.ca/hhr). This will help the SHA resume accessible and sustainable care to Wolseley and many other communities in Saskatchewan.

The SHA encourages anyone interested in any of the positions available in Wolseley to apply. Those and all available positions are posted online at healthcareersinsask.ca.
